Wonder Women of the Ancient World – Atalanta

Atalanta is the second in our Wonder Women of the Ancient World series, after Ariadne and tells the story of a young girl brought up by bears, who undergoes many trials as she returns to her family, from joining Jason’s voyages on the legendary Argo, to killing the vicious Kalydonian Boar! This series revisits ancient Greek myth from the perspective of unsung heroines and tells their stories in an engaging, imaginative and immersive way.

Written by Lucy Ruddiman who also performed the title role, the show also featured Mark Katz in a variety of roles and was an interactive family experience for ages 4 and upwards. It performed at Brighton Fringe and thereafter at Elderflower Fields Family Festival in the Ashdown Forest in Sussex.

  • Fun, exuberant, immersive. Our 3 3/4 year old loved it, it’s the best kids theatre she’s seen; wonderful how you sustained her interest with such fun participation interwoven in clear and interesting storytelling.

  • Engaging, amusing, enjoyable. It was a good message for our little girls about female heroes. I loved the Al Pacino Argonauts sketch. It was great that the kids got to volunteer.

  • Funny, imaginative and really quite brilliant. This show was a real highlight of Brighton Fringe this year. It told the story of Atlanta in a brilliantly child - focused way: funny, imaginative and really quite brilliant. My 4 year old was absolutely captivated.
