Savage Beauty
Savage Beauty was performed at the postponed Brighton Fringe in Oct 2020 (when Covid lockdown was briefly lifted).
Inspired by Sophocles’ play Antigone, Savage Beauty was written by Tamsin Shasha, who also performed in it alongside Leda Douglas and Mark Katz. A much loved community garden is threatened with closure only to be replaced by a luxury complex. Thena (Antigone) decides to defy the law laid down by her uncle Cyril (Creon) by breaking into the, now off limits, garden and planting a tree – an act of defiance that has dramatic and irrevocable consequences.
The play was an outdoor site specific, immersive piece about climate change and the need to act. It won a ‘most innovative staging award’ at the Fringe and featured music by the singer/songwriter Juliet Russell and sound design by Matt Eaton.
Savage Beauty was supported by Arts Council England, Brighton & Hove City Council, Rampion Offshore Wind and Sussex Community Foundation.

A very relevant version, perfectly suited to examining the role of citizens’ protest in a time of increasingly authoritarian governments worldwide.....Tamsin Shasha as Tessa stunned us with her trademark performance suspended from silks.
