Our Year 10 Classics students recently had the pleasure of attending a Greek Theatre Workshop run by the Actors of Dionysus, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! Under the fantastic leadership of Mark, the workshop was an energising and inspiring experience for all those involved.
Mark's enthusiasm and dynamic energy created an engaging atmosphere that kept everyone motivated and eager to learn. His passion for Greek Theatre was infectious, making each session both educational and enjoyable. The students massively benefitted from his extensive knowledge and unique teaching style, gaining invaluable insights into the world of Greek Drama.
The workshops were a great opportunity not only to broaden their classical horizons but also to develop new skills. Mark expertly guided the students through various exercises and performances, pushing them out of our comfort zones and helping them grow as performers. The experience was challenging yet incredibly rewarding, fostering a deeper appreciation for the art form.
Overall, the Greek Theatre Workshop was an outstanding experience. Thanks to Mark and his team, the students walked away with newfound confidence, skills, and a profound understanding of Greek theatre. If you're looking for a transformative and enriching workshop, look no further!
Charlie O'Connell: Tiffin Secondary School, Kingston -
This was a great experience for our students to learn more about the Ancient theatre from both talks and active participation in becoming a chorus. It was well-received by the students, who had known very little before the day and who enjoyed acting in groups together, however quiet or confident they were.
Jo Howling : Withington Girl’s School -
I admired the way in which the students’ knowledge of Greek theatre and the text was constantly questioned and added to. It brought the themes of the play to life for them more and definitely and also gave them a different perspective on the characters. They really enjoyed the exaggerated choral exercises and the energy Mark brought to the workshop.
Julie Gardner: Nower Hill High School -
I really enjoyed the Greek Drama Workshop because of the way that Mark ran it. He explained the techniques really well and made the workshop really interesting.
Roisin : Secondary student attending with Cambridge Classics
Mark was really encouraging and gave helpful feedback when we did the frieze activities and learned about the chorus. The extra facts he added about the history and the mechanics of the theatre were fascinating as well. Overall, I thought Mark's work Roisin : Cambridge Classics Society with Local Secondary School childrenshop was really enjoyable and energetic - I loved it! -
Total engagement of all pupils. A truly excellent workshop - 10/10
Gary Baxendale, Ryburn Valley High School -
The whole workshop was wonderful! My students enjoyed it immensely and were inspired by Mark’s enthusiasm for Greek theatre. The use of props was really effective and the final mini performance of Cinesias and Myrrhine was joyful! We are rarely able to have workshops because of the expense so thank you so much for giving us this opportunity.
Izzy Forrester, Archbishop Tennison's School -
Mark’s enthusiasm was infectious which was evident in the student’s practical work. They came away with a clearer idea of a traditional and contemporary Greek chorus. Feedback from the students was very positive. Thank you so much for the opportunity you gave our girls.
Vicki Stitt, Davison High School for Girls -
10 out of 10 – they loved it and wanted to read more Greek drama. In fact the pupils want someone to come in and show them how to perform the plays in the Greek. This was a very worthwhile experience and the pupils were inspired by this workshop.
David Hogg, Kelmscott School -
