Hekabe

Hekabe

Hekabe, translated and directed by David Stuttard after Euripides, was our inaugural production in 1993 and started its life in St Andrews, Fife where the company originated. Described by classical scholar Sir Kenneth Dover as stunningly good the show toured to several schools throughout Scotland, before appearing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe alongside Hippolytus in rep.

  • I found it, in its excellent translation by David Stuttard, a refreshing contrast to some of the more fragile offerings on the Fringe. The production achieved a feel of stealthy, contaminating violence, which seemed to hang in the atmosphere like smoke.
