Antigone

Sophocles’s Antigone has had many  incarnations by AOD Actors of Dionysus over the years. Most recently in Christopher Adams dystopian version, directed by Tamsin Shasha as a national touring production to 55 venues in 2017. • Adams' Antigone shares more than a passing handshake with Anouilh's own, and that commerce is given vigorous life in a performance of noisy, visceral integrity.

  • It's to the company's great credit that from this material they have created something so interesting, accessible, and above all enjoyable.

    North West End, 2017
  • loved everything about it, appropriate set, music, loved the use of high-tech language, acting excellent. 10/10

acting was dynamic but subtle - I felt part of the action, innovative adaptation to bring Sophocles into the 23rd-ish century. 10/10

startling production, attack of the senses, demanding, draining, satisfying. Brilliant 10/10

I was absolutely 'blown away . A fantastic performance. This was Sophocles made relevant to the youth of C21st and to open-minded audiences of all ages. Congratulations to the whole company.

  • An astonishingly well-staged production…The final scene showed just why the company is considered to be the UK’s finest exponents of this form of theatre.

  • Just as I was beginning to wonder exactly why I first became interested in theatre, and sick of all the musicals, along come Actors of Dionysus…This was a show to restore your faith in the genre.

    Exeter Express & Echo, 2001
